About Quorn™

Quorn™ products and adverse reactions

Protein is an essential part of our diet. Without adequate protein we wouldn’t get all the nutrients we need for building muscle and bone while keeping our cells in good working order.

Experts say that men need 56g of protein a day and women need 46g.

Most people can eat any type of protein without a problem. Unfortunately, all protein foods can cause illness in some people.

In some cases it may be a true allergic reaction, in others it’s more likely to be an intolerance caused by a digestive problem.

The Food Standards Agency estimates that between one in 100,000 and one in 200,000 people will react badly to the protein in Quorn™ products.

By contrast foods such as soy, nuts, shellfish, dairy and eggs are much more likely to cause problems. It’s reckoned that between one in 50 and one in 200 people have an intolerance to these foods.

Unlike most other foods, Mycoprotein has been the focus of a number of studies to assess its nutritional and clinical effects. It has been approved for sale in the UK, the US, Australia, Sweden, Switzerland and many other countries.
